Description

Cold rolling is performed to produce sheets & strips with smooth surfaces, having a better surface finish with accurate dimensions. Cold-rolled sheets and strips can be obtained in various conditions, including skin-rolled, quarter-hard, half-hard, and full-hard – depending on the amount of deformation & strain hardening that the material undergoes. After cold rolling, the long & thin sheets are spun into coils called Cold Rolled coils. MAKING OF CRAP COILS Cold rolling usually involves the following steps. 1. Cold rolling: It is being done to reduce thickness up to the required dimensions (available from 0.4 mm to 5 mm). 2. Annealing: Subsequent to the cold rolling, annealing of the cold rolled strip is performed in order to relieve the stresses that build up within the material during the cold rolling process which reduces the ductility of the coil and is required for further processing operations. 3. Coiling: Coiling of cold rolled coils is done for storage & transportation. Processing such as pickling, surface grinding, or bright annealing is performed as per customer requirements for improving the surface finish. FEATURES 1. In terms of physical characteristics, cold-rolled materials are typically harder and stronger than standard hot-rolled counterparts. As the material is deformed at a lower temperature, the steel's hardness and resistance against deformation get increase due to work hardening. 2. A smooth & bright surface finish can be obtained due to fewer chances of surface oxidation. 3. The cold rolling is generally done using a 20-Hi-Sendzimier cold rolling mill. This type of rolling mill offers the advantages of great rigidity, bearing the rolling force uniformly along the entire width of the rolling mill through the backing bearing, and therefore the longitudinal and lateral dimensional accuracy of the sheet/ strip is high. 4. The CR Annealing & Pickling line is on environment-friendly LPG fuel with better temperature control, associated with Electrolytic and Acid Pickling with very high control on the pickling process.
