Description

These are stairs placed outside the building, so that they remain as free as possible from smoke: in fact, asphyxiation and poisoning by poisonous gases are the most important causes of death in the event of a fire. The fire escape stairs, however, can be, as mentioned, even inside the building: they are inserted into the building through appropriate technical measures that allow the ventilation and the escape of fumes. If the staircase is external, it will be done only and only to a sizing according to the safety exits that the building needs. If the staircase is internal, fire doors are placed whose opening does not allow the escape of fumes or flames. The dimensioning of the staircase follows the criterion of the number of safety exit modules. It is also based on the number of people that must be evacuated from each floor of the building, in order to have the fastest evacuation time. Therefore in the design of a fire escape, the route of the ladder will also be taken into account, which must reach an external safe place, where evacuees can be collected and stop, without suffering damage due to the incience of the fire or damage to the building .
